Puppy biting and mouthing
As soon as puppies are active they begin playing with littermates. This playing can sometimes be rough and include chasing, leaping on, biting and pulling on ears, tails and anything else they can find.
Littermates teach each other to play appropriately. Bite too hard and the other puppy will yelp. Do this too often and no one will play with you anymore. No one likes to play with a bully.
When your puppy leaves its littermates it will want to continue these games with you. It is important to teach them early that human skin is fragile and not to be bitten. An 8-week old can do less damage than 8-month old dog. DON’T WAIT to teach this important lesson.
