My Training
I have over ten years of experience working in the animal training industry. This began in the UK at Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, which is one of the largest of its kind in the world. There, I was employed as a Dog Instructor which involved training Hearing Dogs and working with recipients in the field providing essential support and training. I now work for Hearing Dogs for Deaf people New Zealand where my dog training skills and people skills have been invaluable to this smaller organisation. Both job roles entail interviewing potential recipients/clients, sourcing of dogs, assessment of dogs and supporting new and existing dog-client partnerships. I am a qualified Assistance Dog Instructor meaning I have been trained and am working to the high standards set by Assistance Dogs International required by all accredited Assistance Dog organisations.
My skills and experience have been developed in the UK, Australia and New Zealand and are wide ranging. I have worked as a dog handler at MAF and prior to this I worked at Guide Dogs NZ in the kennels and breeding centre. I have also completed numerous papers including Principles of Canine Behaviour, Canine Behaviour Modification for Professionals, Companion Animal Industry Practices (Australia).
